From the Middle of the City
There isn't only romance in Istanbul; there’s also reality. Clothes hanging out to dry have always given me that sense of real life. In many paintings, laundry blowing in the wind always affects me the same way. It reminds me of lived experiences, hard work, preparation for tomorrow, and that eternal cycle. It also gives me an unknown peace. Maybe this clothing and sheets hanging from pegs show that hope still exists. Is the boatman rushing to the opposite shore to take in his laundry?
