A Band of Clowns

Why did the musicians become clowns? This painting was originally created to hang on the wall of a Jazz Bar. The owner even told me, ‘Make me a painting, I support you, it doesn't matter what it is.’ However, by the time I finished it, that bar had closed. Still, I felt happy. Somewhere in the universe—even if just inside the mind of this madman—clowns are playing jazz in front of the Maiden’s Tower. (Such a utopian world is perhaps nothing more than the dream of a Don Quixote—me.) At the end of the day, I’m glad the painting stayed with me. Better yet, the trace of this dream has now rubbed off on you, too. However, I suggest focusing on the Boatman; this can make even the most cheerful painting seem deeper and more mysterious.
