from brush to pen
The story behind “from brush to pen” begins with meeting Turkish artist Kemal Sahan on Instagram, where in my less-than-perfect Turkish we corresponded before meeting face-to-face. The first thing this self-taught artist told me was, “I’m not an artist!” I was quick to disagree. Later I wrote poems inspired by 10 of his paintings. Turkish poet/novelist and friend, Muhsine Arda, kindly translated them. The result is this book, designed by my project partner Athena Longoria, which has been printed in a very limited quantity.
