FIRST PEOPLES: A Celebration of Native Artists in Southern California

Working with my dear friend, Carolyn Uhri, founder and president of the San Fernando Valley Arts & Cultural Center, this exhibition attempted to answer the question: What does it mean to be a Native Artist? All participating artists had indigenous roots either north or south of the Mexican border, and resided in Southern California. Attended by 300 guests, the gala opening featured a Native American blessing, singing, and dancing. I’m very proud that UCLA’s American Indian Studies Program was a sponsor.
