UP AGAINST THE WALL, LA!

A unique collaboration with the Mural Conservancy of Los Angeles (MCLA)’s former Executive Director Isabel Rojas-Williams, this exhibition salutes African American artists who discovered that walls could be canvases for expression. These murals reflect the changing zeitgeist of Los Angeles’ African American community from 1949 to 2012. Some were responses to traumatic events in that city. Others tell untold American histories. Some pay homage to revolutionary and civil rights leaders. While others celebrate the accomplishments of African Americans. All are available to be appreciated thanks to the ongoing documentation and preservation efforts of MCLA.
