ONE FOOT IN TRADITION…

Dancers glide. Horses gallop. A warrior adjusts his tie. The work of Native American artist-educator Eric Tippeconnic exudes the energy of movement and pride. Visually rooted in Native traditions, it speaks of a thriving Native modernity. Murals compel viewers to acknowledge they stand on Native land. Canvases address the paradoxical history of California, where Eric resides. Having once annihilated most of its Native population, it’s home today to more Native Americans than any other US state. Eric’s art beautifully celebrates Native culture, resilience, and transformation against the shameful backdrop of America’s genocidal settler colonialism.
